Wow! It has been a while. I hope your new year is off to an incredible start, 2013 is looking big, bright and beautiful and I know it is going to be filled with many magic moments. I have not long returned from a month long break, as many of you know I got married on New Years Eve (Yippee!), spent quality time with friends and family and had a lovely holiday in Tasmania. Last year for me was HUGE and, I believe when you’re open to it, the universe conspires to bring you exactly what you need. What I needed it seems was to disconnect to reconnect. To disconnect from routine, from burning the candle at both ends, from social media and to embrace the opportunity to recognise what truly makes me happy, what it is that lights my soul on fire.
I didn’t plan to switch off for such a long period of time, it just happened and I ran with it. Before 2012 was out I had made literally hundreds of notes on my iPhone of inspirations, ideas for projects, recipes, amazing finds, you name it I had it noted down then, after connecting to wifi my fabulously trusty phone erased everything from that particular app. No rhyme. No reason. Just gone, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. I checked my back-up and guess what…all my notes had packed up their bags and taken extended leave from there too! Surprisingly, I felt inspired, free, and excited about the endless possibility of cultivating new ideas and discovering new finds. I did not realise until the point of losing it all, that my collection had inadvertently morphed itself into a ‘To Do’ list that I felt behind on before I had even begun sharing it.
Then came our wedding which will feature in future posts (so excited to share it with you!). I cannot express in words how much this wonderful day exceeded anything I had ever imagined. I felt so happy and connected, deeply in love, and giddy with excitement. A few days after our wedding we started our holiday and if you have ever travelled to Tasmania you will know it is a little like stepping back in time, untouched beauty to behold – check, fabulous food – check, incredibly friendly locals – check, television – occasionally, internet – intermittent, mobile phone reception – not a chance. Welcome to the great disconnect.
I could not receive nor respond to calls or text messages, check Facebook or tweet. Emails were not being retrieved any time soon. Again unexpectedly I felt a sense of freedom. I people watched, I lived in the moment without distraction. I had time to reflect and dream without any influence from external sources. I chatted for hours on end with my husband about anything and everything, life – our life. I tapped into my true intentions for Ultra Inspired and for me and my career. I come back to you now feeling energised and alive with an abundance of inspiration. I am so excited for the year ahead!
If you’re up for it, I challenge you to put away your phone for a short-time. A day, an evening or, just leave it in your pocket or bag next time you are the first one to arrive at a destination. Look around you, take it all in, smile, breathe and tune in to how you feel I guarantee it is worth it.

Your holiday sounds lovely and so excied to see future posts on your beautiful wedding, congrats! x
I also am trying to embrace a little less technology, a little less use of my mobile, I want to implement a switch off sunday rule for mysef to just enjoy what the day has to offer.
100% Agree Cara. I just had a month long break from blogging, and also took a semi break from social media and emails. It was so refreshing and has also given me an outlook to limit my time on them in the future – i.e. checking them regularly, but not continuously. I even moved my social media apps off my phone home screen to another page just to make my decision to log on more conscious.
Welcome back x
This post made me smile.. beautifully written Cara and resonated with me and put into words exactly what I was feeling after an extended holidays where I just disconnected from everything.. it was magical and it made me feel.. free!
